The final installation of Chester County community owned quilts will be placed on view in this third installation. Don’t miss the chance to see the outstanding work and read the stories that tell us that quilts are about more than fabric.

Independence Day Reading

July 1, 2010

Come out at lunchtime and join us in a communal reading of the fiery July 5, 1852 speech in which the great abolitionist orator Frederick Douglass took exception to being asked to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Part of a nationwide commemoration of Frederick Douglas, the reading by prominent Chester Countians will take place on the steps of Horticultural Hall, next to 225 N. High Street, a building in which Douglas gave a speech in 1863. In case of rain, the reading will be held inside the Historical Society.
