Dress, 1860-1870 (left)
Navy wool with cream moiré silk trim
Gift of Mr. Albert E. Conway

The Civil War profoundly affected people and its influence is reflected in clothing. Women and children’s clothing was enhanced with tassels, braid, and buttons inspired by men’s military uniforms. This blue wool ensemble features military-inspired embellishments made popular during the Civil War. Boys donned military-inspired clothing in support of the cause for which their male family members fought.
