Dress, 1879-1880

Back To Era Ready-Made / Handmade

Navy and red striped cotton
Gift of Mrs. Charles W. Earnshaw

This dress is a wonderful example of using conventional material in an unconventional way. The apron front was created by putting handkerchiefs or tablecloths on point to show off the border of the fabric to its best advantage.
