25th Annual NHD History Competition- Senior Division (9th-12th grade)

The 25th annual regional NHD history competition begins on Friday, March 7 with the judging of Senior Division projects.   Students from across Chester and Delaware Counties will present their original research in five categories: performance, research paper, documentary, website, and exhibit.  The Senior Division is for 9th through 12th grade students.  The Junior Division competition, on Saturday, March 8, welcomes 6th through 8th grade students.

History's People: Legendary musician Jim Croce called Chester County home

We have just marked the 40th anniversary of the passing of a legend - singer-songwriter Jim Croce. As a Delco native, I grew up knowing of Jim’s connections to the area.

History's People: Chester County's Passmore Williamson famed abolitionist

Passmore Williamson was born Feb. 23, 1822, into a Chester County Quaker family, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Pyle Williamson. On July 27, 1855, Williamson was committed to Moyamensing Prison, where he would spend the next 100 days. What took Passmore Williamson from Chester County to a Philadelphia jail, imprisoned on the order of a federal judge?

Passmore Williamson’s Prison Visitors’ Book Held by Chester County Historical Society is one of Pennsylvania’s Top 10 Endangered Artifacts.


Pam oversees the Photo Archives, which is the place to call if you are looking for historical photographs for research purposes or for publication in books, magazines, newspapers and videos. CCHS Photo Archives has over 80,000 historical photographs that document Chester County people and landscape from the 1840s to today. CCHS reproduction service can make reproductions suitable for display or to suit commercial needs.


Heather has over five years of experience in exhibit preparation and installation, museum registration methods, and collections care. As collections manager, Heather maintains and provides access to objects in the museum collection. She assists the curator with installing exhibits, cataloging new and existing collections, and interpreting artifacts. Heather is also primarily responsible for coordinating volunteer projects in the museum.
