Gain a unique perspective on Chester County history as a volunteer! CCHS volunteers make new friends, gain a wealth of knowledge, attend special programs, and provide essential support for our mission. 

We offer numerous and diverse opportunities that compliment each individual’s interests and talents. Listed below are some of the currently available volunteer opportunities. If you have a special interest or skill that does not fall into one of the categories listed, please let us know and we will to do our best to fit your skills with CCHS’s needs.

CCHS Volunteer President

Make a difference in your community by volunteering in a leadership role with an energized, collegial, dedicated group of loyal volunteers with an organization that has been celebrating the significance of Chester County for 125 years: the Chester County Historical Society! The Volunteers President coordinates key aspects of support, creativity and vitality that enable CCHS to succeed as one of the county’s great educational and preservation organizations.

General Responsibilities: 

• Administers all aspects of CCHS Volunteer Office at CCHS. Includes working with CCHS staff to identify needs; processing applications; recruiting and interviewing potential volunteers; maintaining and recording monthly volunteer hours; maintaining and updating volunteer files; communicating, motivating and retaining current CCHS volunteers.
• Trains CHS volunteers by standards and committees governed by the CCHS Volunteer Organization Handbook (November 2015) to support the CCHS mission
• Attends CCHS staff meetings; attends most CCHS special events
• Develops and assists with fundraising opportunities to support the Volunteer organization and the CCHS mission
• Serving leader of the Volunteers Corps, has a unique view of the institution as a voting member of the CCHS Board of Trustees with full Board responsibilities


• Self-motivated; team oriented; good communication; careful leadership, and enjoys working with people of all ages.
• Office skills including basic computer skills of Word, Excel and Outlook; well organized; attentive to file and record-keeping
• Interest in history, education and the Chester County community is preferred.
• Ability to be on CCHS Security Call list is a plus

Guest Services Coordinator at the Chester County Antiques Show March 8 - 12, 2018. Skills required are ability to organize, customer service friendly, able to schedule and train a team of volunteers at this important fundraising event for CCHS.

Assist monthly with filing and shredding in various departments. Available during regular CCHS business hours, Tuesday – Friday 9:30 – 4:00 pm

CCHS newsletter editing and graphic skills. Available during business hours the last week of the month. Orientation will be provided.

Immediate need in Photo Archives for a volunteer to clean and dust a very important book. All tools, vacuum, mask and gloves, necessary for this process will be supplied by CCHS. Mondays are preferred. You may work at your own pace. It is very important that you do not have an allergy to cats and do not suffer from other respiratory ailments.

Also, immediate need for a volunteer to cut large 44” x 42” sheets into 11” x 14” folders. Volunteer will be trained to work on the necessary equipment. Skills required are careful attention to detail.

Volunteer assistance is needed in the CCHS Museum Shop Fridays and Saturdays. Ability to use a cash register, make change, record sales, greet and assist customers with a big smile and friendly attitude. Shift times would be 10 – 2 or 11- 1.

Volunteers are needed to create crafts and natural green arrangements for the CCHS Holiday and Greens Sale, a fundraiser by the CCHS Volunteer Organization. There is a need for all skill levels. Scheduled workshops are held off campus in our donated space in East Bradford.

The Greens Sale Committee is also seeking donations of fresh greens, pine, cedar, boxwood and especially magnolia limbs for the sale in December. If you are able to add your property to the list, please contact Susan Johnstone at CCHS.
